Happy Earth Day!

Happy 51st Earth Day, Best Buddies!

I wanted to take today's posting to collectively celebrate the beautiful planet we live on. We celebrate Earth Day because of the dependency we have on Earth to live. The astonishing systems create sustainable ways of living for us—the air we breathe, the water we drink, the climate and conditions we thrive in. Yet, humanity shows a funky way of giving thanks. We pollute, burn fossil fuels, wreak havoc upon our oceans…we harm. Therefore, today we celebrate the awareness of these negative actions that are destroying our beautiful home and encourage conversations and actions to brighten up our planet.

As Best Buddies, we have proven that when we dream something, we get it done. The passion and community we have built have positively impacted countless lives. Therefore, let us take this passion and think of different ways we can help save our planet. I have conducted a list of my own, but the list does not end here. I challenge you to build upon this list and share it. Together, our change can help save our earth.

-        Plant a tree!

-        Save water!

-        Spend time outside!

-        Turn the lights off when you leave a room!

-        Carpool when you can!

-        Walk or ride a bike!

-        Clean up the litter you see!

-        Get a group and socially distance clean a beach or park!

-        Educate yourself on climate change or pollution!

-        Refreshen yourself on the rules of recycling!

-        Have a plant-based meal each day!

-        Have a no TV day!

-        Plant a garden!

-        Use less paper! Can you be paper-free for a day?

-        Use a reusable water bottle!

Clearly some of these ideas are easier to do than others, so be creative! We can do things at home, we can do things at school/work, and we can do things in our community. Our actions make a direct change to our planet and if we can live sustainably and intelligently, we will make a difference. There are generations to come, so let’s leave our home in better conditions than we found it. We have the ability to make a change, so Best Buddies, I am asking you to show me how we can help.
