Autism After 21

Autism After 21 is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping young adults on the Autism spectrum confidently build foundations for their future. Check out this article written by guest writer and founder of Autism After 21: Michelle Rubin.

Autism After 21 was started by me (Michelle Rubin) in 2011 after my own son on the spectrum went through transitioning from high school and I felt there wasn’t enough out there to help him explore entering the world of work. We stay dedicated to the mission of working with students during the transition years: 18-25.

Currently our SOAR (Summer Opportunity for Adult Readiness) program is underway on the Florida Atlantic University Campus. This residential program gives students a 12-day residential experience and we work on a curriculum of pre-employment training, career exploration, independent living, transferrable social skills and having lots of fun.

After SOAR we work on OJT (On the Job Training) for our students who are not in school or attending college full time. Autism After 21 offers a Peer Mentoring program: we pair our young adults with a college student who has been trained to work through a curriculum centered around transition, the workplace, financial literacy, and life skills.  Social events throughout the year keep our students connected as well.

We have more details of our story on our website and you can visit our YouTube channel for videos and slide shows to get a good idea of what we do.

Thank you Michelle! Also, check out our YLC Chats video with Michelle to learn more about Autism After 21.
