Inclusive Barbies
Inclusive Barbies
Barbie is a fashion doll manufactured by the American toy company Mattel, Inc. and launched in March 1959 by American businesswoman Ruth Handler.
Barbie first started out as a princess doll for all ages. In 1971, Barbie was ready to go on adventures in her first camper. Girls could imagine exploring the great outdoors in a camper with a picnic setup, pop-out tent, and sleeping bags. Girls went crazy for Barbie. It was the hottest brand. All the girls wanted Barbie and everything that came with it.
Barbie was the best thing ever to a lot of girls. They came out with Barbie clothes, dream houses, and cars. Barbies were sold in millions of stores across the world. Barbie came in with blond and brown hair and a perfect body image.
It only took so many years for the company to finally realize that we need Barbies to look like people with different abilities. The first Barbie with a different ability was the Barbie with a wheelchair. Girls who have to use a wheelchair can have a Barbie that looks like them. That barbie was a huge success so they began to create more Barbies to represent people with a different ability, like a Barbie with a hearing aid.
I think it is awesome that they are finally making Barbies with different abilities. Making them like that will teach kids that being different is okay and become aware of people with all different abilities.
I think companies will start making dream houses for people with different abilities. The dream house can include a wheelchair ramp attached to the house. They could also make disability friendly cars with ramps attached to the car.
In friendship,
Jamie
